Commerce Ministry to investigate, clamp down on dumping, “import surges” (The Hindu)
India’s Commerce Ministry has stepped up action against import surges and suspected trade malpractices by using its agencies like the DGFT and DGTR to monitor and regulate inflows more strictly. In June 2025, the DGTR initiated anti-dumping investigations across eight product categories involving 12 countries or regions, including China, Taiwan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Switzerland, the EU, Egypt, and Indonesia. A notable example includes the restriction on imports of palladium, rhodium, and iridium alloys containing gold, after officials found they were being misused to circumvent higher gold duties.
Delhi updates Solar Energy policy, trebles subsidy (The Economic Times)
The Delhi government has revised its Solar Energy Policy 2023, raising rooftop solar subsidies for households to ₹10,000 per kW (up to 3 kW), tripling the earlier limit and capping the benefit at ₹30,000 per consumer. From July 10, group housing societies and RWAs can also avail ₹2,000 per kW for systems up to 500 kW, including EV charging infrastructure. The updated RESCO model allows consumers to install solar systems without upfront costs, with payments integrated into electricity bills and subsidies credited directly to bank accounts via national or state solar portals.
India's goods trade deficit could widen to $300 billion in FY26, amid tepid export growth (The Economic Times)
India’s goods trade deficit is projected to widen to USD 300 billion in FY26 (from USD 287 billion in FY25), driven by sluggish exports—especially to non-US markets—and strong domestic import demand, according to ICICI Bank Global Markets. While US-bound exports rose 24% YoY in June due to front-loading, overall exports contracted by 0.1% YoY, with oil exports down 16%, offset slightly by gains in electronics (+47%) and chemicals (+3.9%). Despite short-term relief from a lower June deficit of USD 18.8 billion, global trade uncertainties and tariff headwinds could weigh on export momentum, even as India eyes opportunities to capture a larger US import share.
